How To Care For & Clean Your Gold Plated or Gold Filled Jewelry

Whether you purchase jewelry from Majestic Intentions or any other spiritual or jewelry shop that uses Gold Filled or Gold Plated jewelry, it's very important to know and understand how to properly care for your new beautiful pieces!

Tip 1: Gentle Care

First and foremost, gold plating and gold-filled jewelry require very gentle care!

Tip 2: Avoid Wetness

These kinds of coatings disagree with any prolonged wetness, salt water, various cosmetics, and chemical substances.

Tip 3: No Coarse Fabrics

Gold plated jewelry shouldn’t be ever wiped or polished with any coarse fabrics, because you can actually gradually rub off the plating. It won’t happen in one day, but it gradually will remove the gold layer, no matter how thick the gold plating is. This does happen with gold as well, but because it’s gold throughout the piece of golden jewelry, there is no visible difference except that your jewelry gets slightly thinner over the years. Keep that in mind when taking care of your jewelry.

Traditional gold and silver cleaning methods are not recommended for gold plated surfaces. The best way to clean it is to use a dry chamois or microfiber cloth.
You would need to remove any oils from your jewelry first, by using a cotton ball dampened with a bit of alcohol or vinegar. You should never try cleaning your jewelry with any abrasive or powder-like substances.

Tip 5: Put Jewelry On After Cosmetics

Do not spray on perfume or other sprays while wearing your gold plated jewelry. We recommend putting the jewelry on after! Also, wait until your lotion or cream is dry or has been absorbed by your skin before you wear your jewelry.

Tip 6: Excercise?

Remove your jewelry when you exercise or anything that would require heavy physical work, and also when swimming.

Tip 7: How Often Should I Clean My Jewelry?

After every use, clean your jewelry with a cotton ball or a very soft cloth to remove any dust and dirt it has acquired and to restore shine. If your jewelry needs more cleaning you may clean it with warm, soapy water. Soak it for a few minutes and clean it with a soft brush. Stay away from jewelry cleaners and antibacterial soaps which may have certain components that will just make your gold plated jewelry tarnish more quickly
